Blair Witch Project Review
Blair Witch Project Review
The film starts off in a way where it looks like a comedy more than anything. we're shown three characters called Heather, Mike, and Josh. They're all presented as fun-loving friends which sets up the second half of the film perfectly. The film creates a strong bond between the characters, only to then tear it apart later in the film, something that makes the film all the more realistic. The film also prologues the scenes where the characters are uncomfortable, something that helps us feel the way that the characters do. As the film is filmed like a home video, it helps us as the viewer feel more connected to our protagonists. It makes the film feel personal and it makes the characters feel like our friends.
Every shot in this film has a reason. The shots portray a sense of dread and fear. When the characters start to argue and fight, that's when things get really interesting. The film perfectly encapsulates the character's fall into insanity. The way the Blair witch slowly drives them insane is really well done and creative. The fact that the witch is never shown or properly explained portrays the feeling of uncertainty and that feeling is perfect for this film. Everything looks real and almost believable. I found myself forgetting that this was a film multiple times. This film does what it wants to do extremely well and I applaud it for that.
